5 Day Slim Down Review

As I said on Thursday and Friday, this past week I participated in the www.toneitupdiet.com 5 Day Slim Down.  This comes as part of the lifetime membership of ordering the Tone It Up! Nutrition Plan.  Though it is slightly restrictive in what you can and cannot eat when (no starches at all, certain foods only at certain times, etc) and requires 2 workouts a day (a cardio routine in the morning and a toning routine at night) it is relatively easy to follow and allows a lot of fruit which helps curb cravings.

I started the 5 Day Slim Down at 150lbs and measurements of 31 inches at the waist and 36 inches at the abs.  I finished the Slim Down at 145 lbs and with measurements of 29 inches at the waist and 35 inches at the abs.  I did get my period in the wee hours of Thursday night/Friday morning so I am unsure how skewed the results are.  I am definitely very pleased with the results and will try it again next month right AFTER I have my period to see what kind of results I can get without mother nature throwing natural bloating in ;)

I have also done their 7DSD, which will give you the best results if you are slimming down for an event, but it is FAR more restrictive. The 5DSD is a little easier to follow if you have trouble with cravings.  There is a lot more fruit and dairy allowed with the 5DSD so that can be very helpful in curbing cravings.  I personally didn't have any real struggle with cravings until Friday, but again I am unsure if that is because I was restricting myself for 5 days or because of Aunt Flo.

What is great about the 5DSD (and the nutrition plan in general) is I am never really hungry and have lots of energy because of how the meals are spaced and planned. The Meta-D and Bombshell Spell drinks (recipes included with the plan) are meant to be drunk every morning to boost your metabolism.  I swear I feel warm on the inside immediately after drinking my Meta-D and notice I have less energy on days I forget to drink it. My favorite part of the Slim Downs are the two-a-day workouts, which I have continued and will likely continue to do (as my schedule allows).

If you are someone who likes a lot of rice, potatoes, etc - the slim down might be hard for you.  You can have 1/2 cup cooked quinoa (1/4 cup dry), so that should help satiate your cravings for something like rice. I found that it was a more than suitable substitute, and even the boyfriend gobbled it up =D

How you get your protein is very variable as well.  Though the Beach Babe edition of the plan (which is where the 5DSD recipes come from) has specific recipes, I found you can substitute tilapia for chicken, and vice versa, as well as use shrimp where tempeh was used, etc, etc.  If a topping or way of cooking sounds good but you are a pescatarian, substitute some yummy tilapia for the chicken (from my research it seems 40z tilapia has almost equal protein to 4oz chicken and provides you healthy omega-3s)

Because fruit is allowed on the 5DSD (where it is more restricted on the 7DSD) if you are a picky veggie eater, the 5DSD might be a better choice than the 7DSD for you, as you may find you get bored with the food choices on the 7DSD eating the same veggies all the time.

All in all the 5DSD is not that hard to follow (as K&K say, you can do anything for 7 days, right? So how hard can 5 be? ;p) I highly recommend it if you are preparing for an event.  But I think I would recommend it most if you feel like you've hit a plateau or you are feeling down about yourself.  It's a great way to kickstart your way back into a healthy routine and feel better about yourself!
